Kiewit Plaza Mechanical/Electrical/Fire Alarm Upgrade Projects Omaha, NE
Kiewit Construction hired Morrissey Engineering to assess and design upgrades of their existing mechanical and electrical systems.
Mechanical Systems Upgrades included the following: Chiller Replacement, Boiler Replacement, Air Handling Unit Coil Replacements, Humidification System Upgrades, Cooling Tower and Controls Upgrades.
Electrical Systems Upgrades included the following: Motor control center upgrades, Switchboard Upgrades and Emergency Power Modifications.
Fire alarm and life safety upgrades were under separate contract and involved extensive upgrades to those systems.
Morrissey Engineering acted as prime contract for the accomplishment of the re-design of those systems. This included review of subcontractor proposals, construction coordination and construction administration.
The existing 16 story building had an existing fire standpipe system. The project included converting one existing standpipe to a combination standpipe/fire sprinkler riser and design of a fire sprinkler system for the entire building. We also upgraded the fire pump configuration to meet the current code requirements, added a required post indicator valve outside the building, and added a preaction fire sprinkler system to protect the sensitive computer area. All the work was completed at night so the building could remain occupied during the day.
