MEI intern Ashley Everitt on Winning AEI Team

Mechanical Engineering student and MEI intern Ashley Everitt and her team from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln won top awards for their design efforts in the 2021 Architectural Engineering Institute International Student Design Competition (AEI-ISDC). There are currently 23 AEI Student Chapters (22 in the US and I located in the UAE). This is quite an honor for their team. MEI is proud to utilize Ashley’s talents on the many projects she continues to collaborate on with our staff as an intern.

The Project:

Georgetown Day School Lower/Middle School located in Washington, DC.
The Lower/Middle School project involved constructing a new four-story lower and middle school building. The facility includes a gymnasium, classrooms, teaching pods, a 35,000-SF partially-below-grade parking facility, and a synthetic turf playing field on the roof. The facility also contains a 500-seat black box theatre including portable stage risers, theatre equipment/rigging/lighting, acoustic wall and ceiling system, and wood flooring.

The Architectural Engineering Institute International Student Design Competition (AEI-ISDC) highlights the collaboration of multi-disciplinary architectural engineering student teams, showcases the knowledge and application of design and construction principles to a real-world project scenario, and prepares students for the realities of their chosen industry.
