Features
Morrissey Engineering handled the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology design for the new Beatrice Elementary School. This project brought three elementary schools together into one modern, 143,000-square-foot building. The school is designed to support a growing community, improve efficiency, and create an inclusive, forward-looking learning environment for students, staff, and teachers.
The two-story building serves all students in Beatrice Public Schools from Pre-K to 5th grade, with spaces organized by age group to support their learning needs. The first floor houses classrooms for Pre-K through 1st grade, as well as shared spaces such as a cafeteria, kitchen, gym, library, music and art rooms, offices, and therapy areas. The second floor is for 2nd to 5th graders and includes more classrooms and a library to help students learn and work together.
One of the main features of this project is its focus on sustainability and long-term performance. The school uses a geothermal water source heat pump system with dedicated outdoor air units, supported by 160 wells that can be expanded in the future. This efficient system reduces energy use and helps maintain a comfortable, healthy indoor environment.
The school is built to be accessible and inclusive, with special spaces and features to support students of all abilities. This modern facility meets today's students' needs, helps connect the community, and is ready for future growth.
