Features
Located on East Campus at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, this renovation and addition project transforms an existing academic building into a state-of-the-art training environment for speech, language, and audiology students. Morrissey Engineering provided comprehensive MEP design services to modernize and expand the facility, improving functionality and performance for students, faculty, and the community.
The three-story building houses Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, and Audiology programs. The project includes a new 12,000-square-foot addition, upgrades to 17,600 square feet of existing space, and targeted renovations totaling 3,100 square feet. The first floor features updated clinic and laboratory spaces that replicate real-world learning. The second floor contains faculty and staff offices, while the third floor offers classrooms, study areas, and meeting spaces to support academic engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Sustainability was a central focus during design and construction. Morrissey Engineering provided Sustainable Project Administration, daylighting, and energy modeling services to support advanced building performance. These efforts earned LEED v4 BD+C Silver certification, highlighting the University's commitment to environmental stewardship and energy efficiency.
The result is a forward-thinking academic facility that supports hands-on learning, advances clinical education, and provides a flexible, sustainable environment for future communication sciences professionals.
